CCC and PDO

On July 12, EducationUSA Advising Center in Albania organized the Pre-Departure Orientation for students that will start school this Fall. About 40 students attended the PDO and got accurate information about:
● First Days - dealing with jet lag and homesickness
● Campus life in the US
● Homework and reading: what to expect
● Office hours
● US coffee culture
● Alcohol and smoking in the US
● Campus involvement
● Staying mentally healthy
●  Health and counseling services
●  Speaking English
●  Banking and financial management, insurance

Guest speakers for this PDO were selected 3 students that are currently studying in USA, Mr. Jurgen Haxhiu that is studying computer science and Mr. Arban Haxhiu that is studying engineering both at Bergan Community College in NJ. Also we invited for the second year continuously Ms. Armora Rama, that is studying Information Technology at Westminster College in Utah.

At the same event we celebrated the first Competitive College Club in Albania, organized by EducationUSA Advising Center in Albania, September 2015 – June 2016.
For the first CCC we had about 100 applicants. 36 were selected to attend the 9 month program that started in September 2015, and 28 have successfully accomplished the whole program and got their certificates.
Some of the Topics covered in the CCC were:
US higher education overview/ Private or public institution; small or big; 2 year or 4 year; liberal arts school.
● Testing Requirements (TOEFL, IELTS, SAT, ACT, GRE, GMAT, MSAT, LSAT)
● Academic Writing/ How to write a successful personal statement
● Watch a movie - Cinderella story
● Book Club -  "The Book thief"
● Meet the Consul - Visa application procedures
● Communication with college; CSS profile; Completing the application, Common application
● Financial aid overview / Alumni Fair

One of our CCC students, Diter Bitri from Pogradec, won a full scholarship from University of Bridgeport, CT. His major is in applied sciences, math.  His scholarship covers $45,455 per year, and according to the eligibility criteria for opportunity funding, he is one of our best candidate.

This event lasted about 3 hours and was attended also by US Embassy staff, Ms. Megan McGill Assistant Public Affairs Officer, Ms. Mirela Cupi Educational and Cultural Assistant and Ms. Sibora Kodra Educational and Cultural Assistant.
